The theme of this year's National Poetry Day is Change. This theme particularly resonates with me this year, as I ponder the changes of the previous 12 months in my own life. Some changes have been slow, frustrating, or upsetting, while others have been exciting and exhilarating.
A lot of my recent writing has reflected that sense of shifting and turbulence, a sense of impermanence and fresh starts. I've questioned my decisions (even more than usual!), and motivations. I'm trying to change my approach to writing too, to seek opportunities to get pen to paper, rather than waiting for inspiration to strike, or time to magically become available. "Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colours. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving." - Terry Pratchett, A Hat Full of Sky
